We were all prepared for the next installment in this popular life-simulator series after more than ten years of support and additions with The Sims 4. Our first indication that EA was developing a follow-up, which many believed to be The Sims 5, came from rumours about a Project Rene.
A sneak peek video was also released, showing off some of the new features that would be included in this latest installment of the Sims series. However, EA revealed the series' future plans in late 2024, and regrettably, The Sims 5 is not included.
Is there no more The Sims 5?
Although it is unclear whether The Sims 5 was cancelled because it was never formally confirmed to be in development, we do know that EA and Maxis are not actively working on a new game in the brand. "We're focused on creating a variety of games and experiences that will touch different categories across the simulated life genre, including cosy games, social and collaborative based gameplay, mobile narrative games, and continued depth, improvements, and modernisation of The Sims 4, which will continue to be a foundational Sims experience," according to EA's statement on the subject.
Project Rene: What is it?
According to the explanations provided, this will be a new multiplayer game set in the Sims universe. According to the description, it seems to be a persistent online meeting place for friends, although it is still very ambiguous. Following The Sims Online, which Gorman mentioned, this will be EA's second attempt to include multiplayer in the brand. "We have learnt a lot from 'The Sims Online.'" We are aware that our gamespace offers the chance to play in a very social, multiplayer, real-time setting," Gorman stated.
The Sims 4 is here to stay
EA has increased support for The Sims 4 in an effort to lessen the impact of losing The Sims 5. Gorman stated, "We will only be expanding our universe; we will not be working on projects that are replacements of earlier ones.
