 The growing power of artificial intelligence is reshaping industries around the world, but it is also creating difficult questions about national security and military technology. One of the most talked-about controversies in recent months involves a conflict between the United States Department of Defense—commonly known as the Pentagon—and the AI company Anthropic. The dispute centers on the use of Anthropic’s AI model, Claude AI, and whether private technology companies should have the authority to set ethical limits on how their systems are used in military operations.

Anthropic is one of the leading companies in the rapidly expanding field of artificial intelligence. Founded by former researchers from OpenAI, the company has positioned itself as an organization focused on building AI systems that are powerful but also safe and aligned with human values.
